Cornerboard for Frozen Crust Packing

Opening a package with a crushed apple pie inside does not sound very appetizing. In addition to not being appetizing, damaged merchandise equals lost money and unsellable goods. One large food distribution company wondered what they could do to prevent product damage to their frozen pie crusts during transit.

A large food distribution company was experiencing massive product damage to their frozen pie crusts during transit.

  • Damaged merchandise/unsaleable goods
  • Wasted money and resources
  • Usage of Z-pieces

By taking IPS Packaging's advice and using cornerboard to protect their pies, the food distribution company experienced significantly less product damage, and greater tray stability.

  • Usage of 2 pieces of inverted cornerboard
  • Elimination of product damage
  • Greater tray stability

After contacting IPS Packaging and explaining their plight, an IPS packaging specialist suggested cornerboard. In the past, many companies used something called Z-pieces.  When Z-pieces were placed into cartons, stacked products would get crushed and consequently crumble crust edges.  By utilizing two pieces of inverted cornerboard and placing them between products, no product damage occurs!
