Battery vs Pneumatic
The question is PORTABILITY
Battery- For portability and medium to heavy tensioning, battery powered tools are the answer. Whether out in the yard or back in the plant, you won’t need an air or electricity power source to operate these friction sealing tools.
Pneumatic- For in-line production and medium to extra heavy tensioning applications, an air powered friction sealing tool is your best option. We recommend a counter balancer for tool suspension; use 400-0105 for tools up to 13 pounds and 400-0237 for tools up to 24 pounds.
Three types of tensioning tools
Tensioning tools can be divided into three basic types
The basic process of applying strap uses a tensioner (tightener) to tension the strap around the object and a sealer (crimper) to join the strap ends with a seal (clip). It could be two separate tools (a two piece system), a combination tool, a powered tool, or an automatic strapping head. Required production speed and efficiency determine the choice.
Proper Air Supply
There are TWO important functions: pressure and supply. Without the proper volume and pressure, the tool will not perform or function properly.
1) It is helpful if the main air line is pitched so far end terminates in a water leg.
2) Branch lines, ½” pipe size, or larger should be taken from the top of the main line; never off the bottom.
3) Each branch line should have a water leg at its lowest point with a drain cock which should be periodically tested, drawing all the water off
The above precautions reduce the amount of moisture that reaches the Filter-Regulator-Lubricator unit.
4) Locate the F-R-L unit above the elevation of the tool when practical and as close to the strapping operation as possible. It should easlity be accessible for draining, filling, and adjusting.
5) Tool fittings (quick disconnect) should be a minimum of 3/8” ID.
