A manufacturer of complex health care parts was previously using a hand-counting and hand-loading system as an integral part of their packaging process. The company began to struggle because the hand-loading and hand-counting system was inefficient, exhausting, and time-consumptive. In addition to the process being highly labor-intensive, labor costs were skyrocketing.
After learning about IPS Packaging, the manufacturing company decided to see if IPS could help resolve their problems. A highly trained packaging specialist informed the company of a bagging system made by Sharp called the Sharp Max Plus ® system. The Sharp Max Plus® system is designed to elevate the process from semi-automatic to fully automatic. With a thermal imprinter and an automatic weight counter, the Sharp Max Plus ® system proved to be exactly what the health care parts manufacturer needed.
- Inefficient hand-counting and loading system
- Time-consumptive
- Labor intensive
- Expensive costs
- Efficient Sharp Max Plus ® system
- 25% increase in productivity
- 45% decrease in labor costs
- Good use of time and resources
The Sharp bagging system utilizes a puff of air to open bags and has an internal method of sensing whether or not the bag has successfully been opened. The machine checks and rechecks that the bag is open and present and that the packaging process is running smoothly. If the system senses that the bag is not present or not open, the machine presents a new bag and starts again. In addition to the internal verification system, the Sharp Max Plus ® system can be set to the preferred number of tries before human intervention is requested.
Furthermore, the Sharp Max Plus® system keeps track of the number of bags it has filled as it operates. The ability of the system to thermally imprint directly onto a bag also proved to be extremely convenient for the health care parts manufacturer. The Sharp Max Plus® is an extremely sophisticated bagger and has now become the standard for optimal bagging in the packaging world.
Through a close examination of the manufacturer’s needs, IPS Packaging created a viable solution to the company’s problem. The health care parts manufacturer reported a 25% increase in productivity and a 45% decrease in labor costs.
